Water and energy are inseparable. To draw attention to the links between water and energy, GWP has released a new video about the theme of World Water Day 2014.

After the USSR was dissolved, Romania has experienced water scarcity for agriculture. The World Bank and USAID are providing loans/funds for irrigation projects and to strengthen water users associations. This case thus illustrates that irrigation subsidies may be needed to support agriculture until farming efficiency improves and returns from the sale of agricultural products can cover costs.

The Prespa basin was affected by over-abstraction and diversion of water, wetland drainage, deforestation and overgrazing, leading to danger for human livelihoods and ecosystems. Action was taken by WWF through the creation of the Society for the Protection of Prespa, eventually culminating in the creation of Prespa National Park. The lesson drawn is that to change the perspective of local stakeholders to ensure that they share a common vision is vital for success.

An Expert Task Force of the joint GWP/OECD project “Global Dialogue on Water Security and Sustainable Growth” has presented provisional results of research into the economics of water security. Although still a work in progress, some striking patterns stand out, and the experts believe this could be a game changer in the quest for a dedicated water goal in the post-2015 development agenda, as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are to be decided upon.

The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources Development and Management (MWRDM), today launches the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) for Africa in Zimbabwe. The launch, which is in the form of an Inception Workshop is being held on 10 and 11^th April 2013 at the Holiday Inn, Harare, Zimbabwe

GWP's Executive Secretary, Dr. Ania Grobicki spoke during the official opening of the 6th “WACDEP Technical Coordination Workshop” held from the 15th -19th September 2014 at Meikles Hotel, Harare, Zimbabwe. The workshop was hosted by the Zimbabwe Country Water Partnership (ZCWP), under the patronage of Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate, Zimbabwe.

The National Consultation on Non Conventional Water Resources (NCWR) Management will be held on Tuesday, May 6th, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, Malta.

The inaugural meeting of the Technical Working Committee on WACDEP in Ghana was held on 19^th September, 2013 at the International Water Management Institute Conference Room in Accra under the auspices of the Ghana Country Water Partnership.
