IUCN regional meeting on experience sharing on intergrated management of ecosystems

GWP WAf took part in the workshop organized by IUCN on the theme of "Regional experience sharing workshop on the integrated management of ecosystems”. The event took place in Cotonou from 6 to 8 May 2015.

    The GWP-WA participated in the workshop organized by the partners involved in the Mekrou area. The Mekrou Project Manager Corneille AHOUANSOU made a presentation on the execution of activities through the Mekrou Project.

    WACDEP Mozambique Capacity Building Programme Launched

    The Detailed Assessment on the Capacity Building Needs in Mozambique (GWP, 2013) states that Mozambique is extremely vulnerable to climate related disaster such as floods, droughts and cyclones, with a recurrence frequency estimated at 1.67, meaning at-least one event occurs every year. Mozambique is also amongst the most affected countries by “large scale” natural disasters in the world. There is a great need therefore to build capacities in managing climate change.  To address that need, the Global Water Partnership’s Water, Climate, and Development Programme (WACDEP) for Mozambique was formally introduced through a capacity building awareness workshop at a launch that was held in Maputo, Mozambique on the 18th March 2014.

    Development of framework of Model for Climate Change Resilient Water Resources Investment Planning to Protect Vulnerable Sectors in Indonesian River Basin Basis

     

    This Indonesia Water Partnership under WACDEP Project is aimed to mobilize activities such as study, situational analysis, and recommendations which will contribute to the achivement of a higher level of water security and climate resilience in River Basin level, through promotion of IWRM in collaboration with key strategic partners such as BMKG (National Board on Meteorological Climatological and Geophysical), universities research center on climate (ITB and IPB), RBO (BBWS Bengawan Solo and PJT I), Central and local governments (East Java and Central Java Provinces) aimed to foster investment planning to protect vulnerable sectors on river basin basis.

    Developing a SADC Water Research Agenda

    Due to a growing need within the region for countries to agree on a water-related research agenda and themes, and to avoid duplication in research, a workshop on developing a Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Water Research Agenda was held at St. George Hotel in Pretoria, South Africa from the 8th to the 9th of April 2015. The workshop was planned and organised conjointly by SADC and WaterNet with the cooperation of GWP SA.

    Caribbean and International Water and Funding Agencies Meet on a New Caribbean Climate-Proofing Water Investment Initiative

    Over thirty (30) representatives from key regional and international water and finance institutions will meet in Barbados on April 9th and 10th, 2015 to help steer a new Caribbean Climate-Proofing Water Investment initiative spearheaded by the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) under its Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) executed in collaboration with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC).

    Forecasting & Modeling Approaches for the Flood Caused

    Following a period of unusual heavy monsoon precipitation that started in mid-July and continue into August 2015, Myanmar experienced the most severe flooding in decades. The rainfall is associated with the south-west Monsoon, which occurs each year, but the situation got worse after the land fall of Cyclone Komen in Bangladesh on 30th July 2015 which brought strong winds and additional heavy rain to (north) Myanmar.
