Gambia and Sierra Leone next on the agenda

West Africa now has 12 Country Water Partnerships (CWP). All  ECOWAS countries have one except The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone. In 2009 contacts were established with these countries and strong demand had been expressed to assist in the implementation of the CWP in each country.

Overall Objectives of the Regional Water Partnership in Central Asia and Caucasus

According to the Johannesburg Declaration (2002), the ultimate goal of the activities of Central Asia and Caucasus Partnership Network is to support and assist the countries in implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles towards the World Summit on Sustainable Development and Millennium Development Goals. This process must be accompanied by public involvement in decision-making, support for the political will for cooperation between sectors and countries, initiating dialogue among all stakeholders and supporting practical activities locally implemented including capacity building.

Provincial/River Basin Water Partnerships

GWP China has established the formal partnership cooperation relationship with over 100 water-related institutions and organizations, including the government institutions, civil societies, research institutions and universities. By the end of 2016, we have set up four provincial and one river basin water partnerships, equal to country water partnerships of GWP network as GWP China is recognized as a regional partnership. They are: GWP China Fujian, GWP China Hebei, GWP China Shaanxi, GWP China Yellow River and GWP China Hunan. In 2023, we established two committees, "the Belt and Road Working Committee" and "the Marine Professional Committee." In May 2024, the Professional Committee of Watershed Carbon Neutrality of GWP China was founded. In April 2025, we set up "the Professional Committee on Water Rights and Water Markets of the Global Water Partnership China".

Young Water Professionals Symposium

A Young Water Professionals Symposium (YWPS) under the theme of “Towards a water secure future” was organised by the Sri Lanka Water Partnership (SLWP) with the sponsorship of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and Unilever Sri Lanka.

Third Nile Basin Development Forum

NBDF third forum, Kigali, Rwanda, 26-28 October 2011. GWP participated in the third Nile Basin Development Forum and presented during a panel discussion to prepare recommendations by the Nile Basin Development Forum.

National Integrated Flood Management (IFM) Programme - Role of Community

Following the successful implementation of the National Integrated Flood Management (IFM) Programme - Role of Community 2012 last year in Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by participants from the states of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor, the same programme was again planned for this year, but held only at the State of Pahang on 7th September 2013.

The 2013 event, aimed at raising awareness and disseminating information to communities living in flood-proned areas in the State of Pahang, was organised by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia and MyWP Capacity Building Network (MyCBNet) in collaboration with Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) and MyCWP.

Venezuela: Integrated watershed management in Carabobo State (#426)

In Carabobo State, the urban and agricultural expansions are the main causes of watershed problems resulting from degradation of forests, deforestation and inadequate solid waste management. Since 2009, action has been taken to combat these developments through participatory public policies which focus on environmental education and sustainable development. The key to the success of the project has been extensive capacity building in combination with concrete management tools.

Strengthening Civil Society and Media’s Role in Promoting Integrity and Accountability in the Water Sector

A workshop on Water Integrity took place from 20-22 May 2013 at Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa. The workshop discussed the theme “Strengthening Civil Society and Media’s Role in Promoting Integrity and Accountability in the Water Sector”. The course was part of a larger capacity building programme on integrity and accountability in the water sector developed by the UNDP Water Governance Facility at SIWI, Cap-Net, WaterNet and the Water Integrity Network (WIN) in order to assist in building institutional capacity among key stakeholders. Previous workshops have targeted wa­ter managers, and other water decision-makers as primary target groups.
