Circle of Mediterranean Parliamentarians for Sustainable Development

The Circle of Mediterranean Parliamentarians for Sustainable Development (COMPSUD) was created with the encouragement of the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) and the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP Med) in December 2002 in the wake of the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), which reaffirmed sustainable development as a central element of the international agenda and emphasized the important role of partnerships and dialogue among the various stakeholders and decision makers, including Parliamentarians and politicians at large.

20 Years of Water Cooperation in Central Asia

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) among Central Asian countries, a Central Asian International Research and Practice Conference took place 20-21 September 2012 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to discuss past experience and future challenges of water cooperation in the region. GWP Central Asia and Caucasus, which celebrated its 10 years at the conference, has been instrumental in regional water cooperation and took active part in the conference.

Debating the role of cultural and traditional systems in managing water

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Hydrological Programme (IHP) and GWP Eastern Africa held consultations on the role of traditional and cultural value systems in enhancing cooperation over national and transboundary public goods.

Using the IWRM ToolBox in Education

To build a closer working relationship on knowledge sharing with universities, a workshop on the GWP Toolbox and IWRM Knowledge Centers was held in Stockholm on 25 August 2012. More than 16 lecturers and researchers from universities participated and shared experiences on teaching IWRM and other water resources-related areas, with examples of how the Toolbox can be applied.

GWP-C Contributes to Global Water Resources Report

Two countries from the Caribbean region, Jamaica and Antigua were selected for a United Nations (UN) Water Resources Report which looks specifically at the application of integrated approaches to the development, management and use of water resources.
