GWP Peru has supported the launch of the country’s national water law translated into five indigenous languages. The initiative aims to democratize the information by making it available to rural and indigenous communities so that they can contribute to national water management.
A programme of measures for forest adaptation, and for mitigating the negative effects of climate change, will be established in four GWP CEE countries, with the dissemination of results to policy- and decision-makers, stakeholders and NGOs.
The GWP Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) guided and inspired a National Dialogue between the Burundi Ministry of Water, Environment, Land Management and Urbanism (MEATU) and citizens over the sustainable management of the Cohoha Water Catchment in December 2013.
Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) implementation team from Rwanda and Burundi resolved to fast-track the implementation activities and fill existing gaps identified in the 2013. The commitment was expressed during a joint review and self-assessment meeting bringing together 21 participants in Kigali, Rwanda November, 8th 2013.

As capacity-building support to its Partner organizations, GWP, together with the University of Dundee, will offer scholar-ships for 30 participants to undertake a module in International Water Law, in Dundee 10-21 June 2013.

In the River Basin District of the CEE region, the countries are cooperating to develop transboundary management, using the International River Basin Commission as a platform. The aim is to address national IWRM priorities, strengthen cooperation with major stakeholders and initiate changes in policies and legislation. This case illustrates the difficulties to balance national priorities in a transboundary context.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) Sponsoring Partners announced today the appointment of Dr. Ursula Schaefer-Preuss as its new Chair, effective January 1, 2013. Dr. Schaefer-Preuss’ latest assignment was as Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development. She was responsible for ADB’s Regional and Sustainable Development Department and Economics and Research Department (Office of the Chief Economist).
