The draft WEFE Nexus Strategy which aims to assist countries and stakeholders in improving the integration of policy and management frameworks and instruments across WEFE sectors and spatial components throughout the Mediterranean, was discussed during the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum in Tunisia.
The 2023 United Nations Water Conference was successfully held from 22-24 March 2023. The event was held at UN Headquarters in New York, co-hosted by the Governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands, aimed to assess the progress of the Water Action Decade 2018-2028 and reaffirm water-related goals and targets, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The mission of the Global Water Partnership to support countries in the adoption and implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular Agenda 6.5.1 to track the degree of IWRM. Thus, the global office and the regional secretariat of Southeast Asia participated in the main events, and side events (on-site and virtual events).
World Water Week held every year since 1991 is one of the leading conferences on global water issues. The theme of this year’s World Water Week is “Seeds of Change: Innovative Solutions for a Water-Wise World.”
With technical support from the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), the governments of Mozambique and Zimbabwe have developed a Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) for the Buzi, Pungwe, and Save (BUPUSA) River Basins. Upon finalization, the TDA is expected to inform the priorities for unlocking investments for reduction in environmental degradation, reduction in poverty, improved water quality, green and grey infrastructure development, flood control, and improved water governance of the BUPUSA Basins.
February 3, 2022, President Csaba Korosi of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) led a delegation to the regional office’s host institute of GWP China, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR).
The Community of Learning and Practice on Drought Management for Central and Eastern Europe and Northern Mediterranean (CLP CEE & NM) was launched during a landmark event held on 22-24 April in Chisinau, Moldova.
Representatives of national authorities, stakeholders and regional institutions from the Mediterranean acknowledged the need for a Strategic Framework for the WEFE Nexus in the Mediterranean’s source to sea continuum at the 1st Regional Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus Roundtable in the Mediterranean organised in the framework of the GEF UNEP/MAP MedProgramme.
