Supporting the NAP Process

The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa has been a collaborating partner in the National Adaptation Plan – Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP) process through association with the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).  NAP-GSP  is assisting LDCs to identify technical, institutional and financial needs to integrate climate change adaptation into ongoing medium and long-term national planning and budgeting in Twenty-six least developed countries (LDCs). GWP has joined other NAP-GSP partners in supporting LDCs to advance NAPs through:

The Malian civil society positions on waste management in Bamako

The National Coalition of the International Drinking Water and Sanitation Campaign (CN-CIEPA/WASH) in partnership with the International Water and Sanitation Centre (IRC) are mobilizing civil society organizations (including the CWP) to position themselves on the rationale of waste management in the Malian capital city Bamako.

South Africa Water Partnership

The South African Country Water Partnership (SACWP) was first launched in 2002 at a time when the Department of Water Affairs was heavily engaging with different stakeholders for implementing its 1998 new water law. Since the launch, there have been a number of attempts to revive the CWP.

  • Between 2005 and 2008, various attempts were made to rekindle the interest in the CWP primarily in the academic sector, all of which bore little to no fruit.
  • The last push to revive the CWP was in 2009 by the then interim chair of the CWP.

Gambia, the CWP exchanges with Minister

A Gambia CWP team including the Chairperson, the Executive Secretary, the National IWRM Focal point and the GWP-WA Technical Committee member met with the Hon. Minister of Water Resources, James Furmos Peter Gomez and his Permanent Secretary (PS), Dr. Bamba Banja on July 7th in the minister’s office in Banjul.

WACDEP launches Young Professional Development Initiative

GWP is calling on Young Professionals in fields related to water management and development, who wish to enhance their professional capacity to express their interest in promoting youth and water engagement through the WACDEP country and regional programmes.

Sustainable Sanitation Networking in Slovenia

A sustainable sanitation workshop was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on 4-5 April. The event drew parallels among different toolboxes and programmes and enabled networking among experts in the GWP Central and Eastern Europe region.
