The Chair of Senegal CWP and three members of the steering committee took part in the various activities related to the celebration of the World Water Day in the countries. The official ceremonies took place in Saint Louis this year. The CWP contributed in finalizing the official communications that were delivered in addition to contributing to the panel discussions.  The scientific panel took place on the topic “Water and Employment” and presided by the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Mr. Mansour FAYE. Two communications were made on the topic one covering national data and the second one reflecting local situation.

How consolidated efforts can help to reach sustainable development in the region of the Mediterranean Sea to ensure preservation and improvement of the environment and the rich biodiversity, was discussed and presented at the Side Event “Challenges and Opportunities for a Mediterranean Green Growth.”

Following up on the Regional Seminar on IWRM Planning in North Africa (Rabat, 24-25 January 2006), which assessed progress and discussed the challenges towards achieving the IWRM in the countries of North Africa, a Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Libya will take place in Tripoli, Libya, on 11 and 12 April 2007.

This paper helps details the shift from a “silo” approach that attempts to manage different aspects of urban water cycle in isolation to an integrated approach. IUWM calls for the alignment of urban development and basin management to achieve sustainable economic, social, and environmental goals. This is a Technical Background Paper, written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.

Climate change is undermining development efforts and will cause unavoidable impacts. Managing water better is central to the world’s development and adaptation challenges, including food security, energy production, poverty reduction, economic growth, and human health. This briefing note lays out key aspects of water and climate change impacts and strategies. Briefing notes are two-page summaries on selected topics. They are prepared by GWP’s Global Secretariat and its partners.
