African leaders, water experts, development partners, and regional institutions have reaffirmed the urgent need to strengthen cooperation and investment in Africa’s shared water resources during the Continental Level Consultation and Exchange Event on Transboundary Water Cooperation, held from 17 to 18 February 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Roundtable Discussion (RTD) on “The Impacts of Technology on Men and Women Engaged in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)” was successfully held on June 26, 2025 (Thursday) at the University Hotel, University of the Philippines Diliman Campus, Quezon City.
Angola and Namibia have officially launched the technical process for developing a Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA), Strategic Action Plan (SAP), and National Action Plans (NAP) for the Cuvelai and Kunene River Basins. The process is being undertaken under the "Enhanced Water Security and Community Resilience in the Adjacent Cuvelai and Kunene Transboundary River Basins (CUVKUN)" project, which is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the GEF Implementing Agency. The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) is the Executing Agency, while the Cuvelai Commission (CUVECOM) and Kunene Permanent Joint Technical Committee (PJTC) are the focal custodians of the project implementation.
The launching of the new GEF Drin II Project marks a bold step forward in addressing the environmental and socio-economic challenges of the extended Drin River Basin.
