The Assembly of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government have formally adopted the progressive Continental Africa Water Investment Program (AIP), during its 34th Ordinary Session, held on 7th February, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The programme Matchmaker 2 aims to provide Jordan and Palestine with tangible and scalable solutions in order to improve water management and build resilience to climate change through the application of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus approach.
The Chair of GP-WA, Prof. Amadou H. MAIGA and the Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand HOUANYE visited Senegal from 16 to 21 Novembre 2020 to support the Country Water Partnership (CWP) that is engaging new actions for a renewed dynamism. The chair of CWP Senegal, Dr. Adrien COLY invited the regional leadership to back the CWP in its efforts for consolidating the actions he has started with his team to strengthen the partnership, build new alliances and engage new fund-raising initiatives.
The focus of the program is to implement inclusive, climate resilient water policies and strategies in low and middle-income countries, of which Uganda is among. It is being implemented through a strategic collaboration between GWP, UNICEF, SWA, JMP and WHO
El Fondo Verde del Clima (FVC) es el único órgano de los mecanismos de financiación de la Convención Marco de Naciones Unidas para el Cambio Climático (CMNUCC) que se dedica exclusivamente a abordar la crisis climática. Investments in water security must be at the center of solutions for both climate change and post Covid-19 economic recovery. Specifically, investments in water information, institutions, and infrastructure encompassing all levels are essential.
Water governance must embrace gender equality and social inclusion if it is to truly contribute to poverty reduction as the world closes in on 2030, the world’s deadline for meeting the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals. Only by integrating gender and poverty issues into scientific research that informs and finances more equitable and inclusive policies, can we hope to move closer to these important goals.
