In recognition of Resilience Day at UNCCD COP 16 in Riyadh, UNCCD, GWP and International Drought Resilience Alliance (IDRA) are launching a global photo competition to highlight the critical issue of drought resilience and its connection to water scarcity and land degradation.
17 June is the UN World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, also called Desertification and Drought Day (DDD). To mark the day, UNCCD, EOTEC DevNet, and GWP are co-organising a webinar on 18 June focused on showcasing collaborative approaches to tackling drought challenges. This webinar entitled, "United for Earth: Collaborative Strategies Against Drought” represents a crucial step in our collective efforts to combat land degradation and enhance resilience in drought-affected regions.
Bangkok, Thailand | April 9, 2025 - Southeast Asia is facing increasing water-related challenges as climate change intensifies. To address these risks, a regional workshop held in Bangkok, Thailand from 8 – 9 April 2025, brought together experts and leaders from Cambodia, Lao PDR, and beyond to strengthen water and drought risk management under a flagship Climate Risk & Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Initiative.
This International Youth Day 2024 we celebrate the first cohort of Global Water Partnership South Asia’s (GWP SAS) Water Academy for Youth (WAY) programme participants through the launch of the WAY Resource Book.
GWP Eastern Africa Regional coordinator George Sanga joined participants from the Netherlands and 7 Africa countries (Burkina Faso, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa), and Dutch Blue Deal partners for a workshop on sustainable financing of Integrated Water Resource Management. He shared the GWPEA experience with implementing the SDG6 IWRM Support Program on how the Blue Deal program can replicate the Matchmaking Initiative pilot in Kenya to mobilize financial resources in target countries.
These topics of water pricing, nature-based solutions, financial opportunities were discussed and an interesting excursion gave insights into the challenges of a local WRUA (Water Resources Users Association) in implementation of a Mangrove restauration project on the shores of the Indian Ocean.
The recent article in Svenska Dagbladet on 19 October, reporting on GWP’s finances, presents a biased and incorrect picture of the organisation. The article fails to take into account the major shift in development aid financing generally that has also affected GWP, and it does not report on the extensive development of programme and project financing that GWP has secured in recent years.

The governments of Angola and Namibia have officially endorsed and kickstarted the implementation of a joint transboundary water project titled "Enhanced Water Security and Community Resilience in the Adjacent Cuvelai and Kunene Transboundary River Basins." This initiative aims to address the pressing challenges of water scarcity, floods, and droughts in the Cuvelai and Kunene River Basins.
