The governments of Mozambique and Zimbabwe have established a tri-basin institution to manage the Buzi, Pungwe, and Save River Basins’ water resources, which have, over the years, suffered from extreme climate effects such as floods, droughts, and cyclones.

The Regional Council (RC) meeting is the annual governance meeting of Global Water Partnership South Asia (GWP SAS) held from 9-10 November 2022 in Negombo, Sri Lanka. The two-day planning and progress review meeting was hosted by the Regional Chair, Ms Kusum Athukorala with the support of the GWP SAS Regional Secretariat. This was the first in-person regional meeting to be held after three years of online meetings.

Born in 1934, Dr. Madhav A. Chitale has played a major role in getting India’s decision-makers and strategic planners to think of water as a resource whose quality and availability need to be safeguarded. As a part of the nationwide programmes to develop cover several rivers, Dr Chitale was one of those who originated of the Ganga Action Plan to improve the waters of the holy river. He was also involved in the development of the World Water Council and the Global Water Partnership.
On 19 and 20 May 2022, a workshop was held in Conakry to restitute and validate the results of the study mission on "The realization of the prospective diagnosis of the Fouta Djallon Massif along with the analysis of opportunities and the proposal of options/priorities for the restoration of the degraded ecosystems of the Massif".
