The Global Water Partnership South Asia (GWP SAS) Regional Council has announced the appointment of Kusum Athukorala as the GWP SAS Chairperson in effective of 1 January 2022.
A GWP-WA regional Secretariat undertook a monitoring mission from 09 to 13 July 2022. The objective of this mission was to monitor the implementation of the TFTC2 Project activities in Togo.
Burkina Faso, a Sahelian country with essentially rain-fed water resources, is experiencing a depletion of its water resources at a time when the demand for water for households and development needs is increasing. This has a negative impact on the quality of available resources, particularly due to pollution of various origins.
In December 2020, GWP welcomed six new members on its Steering Committee, adding to seven members who have served longer. The Committee acts as a Board of Directors for the GWP Network and the GWP Organisation (GWPO). The members rotate every three or six years. Now, for the first time, a Permanent Youth Seat has been added. Jamilla Sealy from Barbados is the new representative on this seat. “Being the first youth, and also being a female of African descent and from the Caribbean, which are often under-represented in the global sphere, makes it a humbling experience”, she says about her appointment.
In April 2023, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) issued an Open Call to Caribbean Journalists, Content Creators, Media Practitioners, and other interested persons to produce a high-quality 5-minute video on Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM).
Droughts are a major challenge facing several parts of the world. GWP is working with many partners to provide knowledge that countries can act on in response to these crises.
GWP Executive Secretary Dario Soto Abril announced the official launch of the “Transboundary water knowledge exchange hub” during the GWP Network Meeting on 25 May 2022.
