World Water Day 2014 marks a big day for Global Water Partnership (GWP). Not only is the network taking part in the worldwide UN campaign to raise awareness on water-related issues – as it does every year – but this time GWP is also launching its new Strategy on this very day.

The online registration and the call for papers and proposals for the 5^th Africa Water Week is now open. The deadline for papers and proposals is March 22^nd 2014. The 5^th Africa Water Week will be held in Dakar, Senegal from 26^th to 31^st of May 2014. Overall theme: Placing Water at the Heart of the Post 2015 Development Agenda!

The Zambian Government and numerous stakeholders have attached great importance to the water agenda as evidenced in its participation in the SDG Consultation on Water held on 5^th March 2014 at Cresta Golfview Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia.

“Although water is central to development, its value is often overlooked. It is thus essential that this national consultation helps to ensure that water is properly reflected in any post-2015 agenda. Moreover water is tied to most development themes – such as food, health, energy. So it is essential to recognize the obvious linkages with these other thematic consultations”

Water and energy are inseparable. To draw attention to the links between water and energy, GWP has released a new video about the theme of World Water Day 2014.

A national consultation on Adaptation to Climate Change and Drought in Slovenia was organised on 6 February 2014 by GWP Slovenia and the Centre for Management of Drought in South-Eastern Europe. Over 40 participants attended the meeting at the Slovenian Environment Agency in Ljubljana.

Working through the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWP SA), the Zambian Country Water Partnership will be undertaking the UN Water Consultation for Zambia on the 5^th March 2014 at Cresta Golf View Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia. The consultation will be undertaken in view of GWPSA’s efforts to support its 12 Country Water Partnerships and build on the Global Network’s value to add to global processes supporting sustainable development through better water resource management.  

GWP Executive Secretary Dr. Ania Grobicki moderated a debate on water and sanitation at the UN General Assembly in New York on 18 February 2014. After the debate was over, Dr. Grobicki said that a global water goal is far from being a done deal.
