Within the GWP, the place of women is important. We believe that they are powerful catalysts for change even though they are often absent from decision-making processes about water management policies.

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year to commemorate the movement for women's rights. For 2018, International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedented global movement for women’s rights, equality and justice. This has taken the form of global marches and campaigns, including #MeToo and #TimesUp in the United States of America and their counterparts in other countries, on issues ranging from sexual harassment and femicide to equal pay and women’s political representation. In this context, the UN theme for the 2018 International Women’s Day is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.

GWP Central America has published two case studies on women in water management, as part of the implementation of GWP´s Gender Strategy. The studies are available in Spanish.

The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Chad and GWP-Central Africa (GWP-CAf) organized a three-day regional capacity-building workshop for Non-Governmental and Civil Society Organizations, to enable them to sensitize the communities within the Lake Chad Basin area on environmental awareness. The workshop which brought together representatives of five pre-selected NGOs and CSOs, from the five member states (Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria, Niger, Central African Republic) of the LCBC was held in Douala, Cameroon on June 28th – 30th 2022.

The global LET conference is about insights into how pioneering science, technological innovation and leading practices shape the major transformation in water management that is underway. It is held 27-31 May in Nanjing, China.

The below papers are proceedings papers from a workshop on the linkages between water and land in the emerging geopolitics of food. It was held in Pretoria 15 – 16 June 2015 by the International Land Coalition (ILC), Global Water Partnership (GWP) and International Water Management Institute (IWMI). 

The Benin Country Water Partnership has started a process to establish local water committees (LWC) in micro basins as part of the Multi Year Programme 4 (MYP4) with the technical and financial support of Protos and the Belgian Development Cooperation.
