SADC Begins To Conduct Water Weeks in Member States

Gaborone, 11th March 2015

The Water Sector of the Southern African Development (SADC) today begins holding of three-day-long SADC National Water Weeks in each Member State to gather input towards the formulation of the fourth phase of the Regional Water Programme.

GWPSA to join South African stakeholders in “Saving Water is Everybody’s business” dialogue hosted by DWA

GWPSA will participate in a panel discussion and make a presentation on “Sharing of experiences on successful Water Conservation and Demand Management Programmes in other countries”. The discussion is a part of the sector policy dialogue on Water Conservation and Water Demand Management (WDM) that will be hosted by the Policy Unit under the Department of Water Services, South Africa, and will be held on Wednesday 16th March, 2016 in Pretoria.

Regional Knowledge Management

The activities under this focus area are aimed at generating and sharing knowledge from experiences in implementing selected interventions in the region. The experiences will be generated from a critical analysis of the work that has been implemented through the implementation of the regional water programme.

IDMP Monitors training outcomes

The IDMP WA carried out a Training of trainers in April 2016 which gathered 20 participants including 5 women from Mali, Burkina and Niger and some regional institutions in West Africa. It was meant to increase the participants’ knowledge on integrated risks management related to drought/ Climate change. After 8 months, a first assessment carried out via a survey through emails has revealed positive impacts for most participants.

Integrated Water Resources Management in Central and Eastern Europe: IWRM versus EU Water Framework Directive

This paper explores the relationship between the aims and instruments of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the principles of IWRM at the example of Central and Eastern Europe, where water management has been dominated by the WFD since these States became members of the EU. Technical Focus Papers are publications of the GWP Technical Committee that harness and share knowledge generated by GWP Partnerships.

GWP Knowledge Resources Used in IWRM online course

The Global Water Partnership will cooperate with McGill University in Canada on an IWRM online course by providing knowledge resources on all aspects related to IWRM including Water Resources Planning and Water Governance, Law and Policy through its knowledge platform the IWRM Toolbox.

GWP SA at the 14th WaterNet Symposium

GWP SA is a collaborating partner of the WaterNet/ WARFSA/ GWP SA Symposium. The 14th WaterNet Symposium was held on 30th October to 1st November 2013 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The theme of this year’s WaterNet Symposium was “Transboundary Water Cooperation: Building Partnerships”.
