OPTAIN (EU-funded research and innovation project) proposes a social and scientific journey towards the increasing and better understanding of the multiple benefits of Natural/Small Water Retention Measures (NSWRM). OPTAIN will identify efficient NSWRM to better adapt to extreme events (floods, droughts) and reduce conflicts between agricultural water uses and other human and environmental demands in small catchments across different biogeographical regions of Europe in close cooperation with local actors.
The government of Senegal is looking to find a more sustainable response to flood governance, with the support of the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) has developed the Integrated Flood Management Project in Senegal (PGIIS), which is based on a scientific and institutional approach to urban flood management at the local and national levels, which goes beyond and national scale that goes beyond the construction of infrastructure.
GWP-WA’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand Houanye attended the Kick-off Meeting of the ‘’EPIC Africa Project - Energy Planning and Modelling through Integrated Assessment of Climate-Land-Energy-Water Nexus in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Cases of the Volta and Tana River Basins’’ on 22nd and 23rd November 2022. The Kick-off meeting was held in Accra, Ghana from 21 to 25 November 2022.
The 2021 edition of the European Development Days (EDD21) will take place on 15-16 June. The event is fully digital, and the theme is "The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future". On the first day, the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, which GWP coordinates in partnership with UNEP, UNEP-DHI Centre and Cap-Net UNDP, will be featured in a session on "Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) to accelerate progress on the SDGs". The Climate-Land-Energy-Water (CLEWs) framework is a modelling tool for quantitative analysis of the Nexus between the biophysical systems of climate, land (including agriculture), energy and water.
Cairo Water Week (CWW) is an annual event organised by the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in collaboration with national, regional and international partners, including GWP Mediterranean. The 4th edition of CWW takes place on 24-28 October under the theme “Water, Population and Global Changes: Challenges and Opportunities”. The event will be arranged in a hybrid style, with some in person sessions in Cairo, Egypt, and some online.
