The main objective of the "Water for Growth and Poverty Reduction in the Mekrou Sub-Basin in Niger - Mekrou Project Phase 2 - NIGER" is to "support green economic growth and poverty reduction in the portions of the Nigerien territory located in the Mekrou River Basin and its area of influence through integrated and concerted water management in developing areas".

In 2020, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) began supporting the Government of the Dominican Republic (DR) to develop estimates of increased risk of flooding and landslides due to rainfall projections under climate change scenarios. This technical study was completed in the last quarter of 2020. Beneath the Drin River basin’s surface water bodies, lies one of the largest karstic areas in the world, comprised of tunnels, porous rocks, valleys and underground caves. The Drin basin’s groundwater system is a fascinating, yet still largely unexplored network, indispensable for human well-being.
The Consortium comprising the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a specialized United Nations agency, the Volta Basin Authority (ABV) and the Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP-WA) are implementing the project entitled "Integration of flood and drought management and early warning for adaptation to climate change in the Volta Basin (VFDM)". The activities of the VFDM project, started in June 2019, are continuing and will end at the end of June 2023. The VFDM project is financed by the Adaptation Fund.
