World Toilet Day: “Toilets Can Help Us Fight Climate Change”

Laurent-Charles Tremblay-Lévesque joined GWP as IWRM & Knowledge Management Specialist exactly one month ago. In his new role, he will develop and share tools and knowledge resources to help GWP’s Partners design and implement water-related strategies and projects aligned with the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). To mark World Toilet Day 2020, we asked him to share an experience from his previous role within the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector. He says that “toilets can help us fight climate change”.

Keeping progress of integrated water resources management on track

Between April and October 2023, UN Member States will take stock and report their progress on implementing the integrated water resources management (IWRM) target under the SDGs. GWP, through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, will assist countries in facilitating multi-stakeholder consultations to assess and report on their progress on SDG indicator 6.5.1.

Transboundary Water: Options for Settling Disputes

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security has entered its second year, and coinciding with this, the interactive series of sessions that explore related topics resumed on 21 September. Over 100 participants joined the event on the topic of international water law and dispute settlement. The speaker presentations highlighted the complex and long-running nature of international water disputes.

The Tisza Office

The Tisza Office of the Middle Tisza Water Directorate (KÖTIVIZIG) was ceremonially inaugurated on 4 November 2014. Five countries are represented under its mandate: Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Serbia. The Tisza Office team - consisting of Judit Palatinus, Melinda Váci and György Rátfai - present the scope of their work and collaboration with GWP.

VFDM holds gender inclusion trainings in the Volta basin countries

The project « Integrating flood and drought management and early warning for climate change adaptation in the Volta Basin (VFDM) » financed by the Adaptation Fund held the remaining two training sessions in the series of six in the Volta basin countries.
