West Asia is experiencing increasing drought frequency and severity driven by climate change, water over-extraction, and rapid land use changes. Countries in West Asia are seeking effective monitoring, early warning, and resilience strategies. Aligned with the mission of UNCCD Community of Learning and Practice (CLP) to foster regional learning and knowledge sharing, this webinar will bring together practitioners and scholars, and policymakers to share practical drought experiences and metrics across West Asia.
A virtual Workshop on financing transboundary water cooperation and basin development will take place on 16-17 December. The event, which is organised under the UNECE Water Convention’s activities framework, will discuss challenges and opportunities related to the financing of transboundary water cooperation and basin development.
To ensure ownership of the results of the implementation of the initiative "Support to the empowerment of women farmers for the reinforcement of the climatic resilience of local communities in the Tchoutchoubou micro-basin in North Benin", the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Programme (WACDEP G) implemented by the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP Benin) in collaboration with the main implementing stakeholders, held a workshop on 21-23 December 2022 to capitalise on the said initiative at the Tanguiéta town hall.
As part of the implementation of the activities of the project "Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin (VFDM)", the VBA in collaboration with WMO, GWP-WA and IUCN organised and held six (6) national technical workshops on nature-based solutions for the development of bankable projects to mobilise funding for implementation in the national portions and at the scale of the entire Volta basin.
In 2020, GWP South America organised a contest among regional Partners. The topic was on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and featured projects successfully carried out in 2020. The top 5 submissions were shared in a series of webinars during April to June this year – presenting results, conclusions, and concerns.
Communities of Practice (CoPs) are social learning vehicles that allow us to move towards adaptative and integrated water resources management. Together with its 3000+ partners, GWP is co-convening 20+ CoPs on a variety of topics including, transboundary management, river restauration, nature-based solutions, drought management, and more.
