Siphon Irrigation for Farmer Communities in Lingmutey-Chu Basin in Bhutan (#496)

Water is needed for drinking and irrigation purposes and paradoxically, in Bhutan water shortages occur despite the presence of sufficient resources. In order to provide irrigation water to farmers living in upper slopes and hilltops in Lingmutey-chu who faced issues in accessing water in 2014, a siphon project was initiated by GWP Bhutan/Royal Society for Protection of Nature in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest in Bhutan.

GWP-NIGERIA participate in the public hearing on water resources Bill

The Federal Republic of Nigeria House of Representatives committee on Water Resources engaged stakeholders and the general public in a two-day public hearing (17 and 18 October 21017) on "a bill for an act to establish a regulatory framework for the Water Resources sector in Nigeria".

Visit of regional Financial Officer

The financial Officer of the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) visited CWP-Ghana and partners from 30-31 May 2016. The main purpose of the visit was to interact with the project management team on progress of implementation of the recommendations from the 2014 and 2015 audit reports of WACDEP.

Women Trained on Innovative Solution to Prevent Fluorosis

GWP Cameroon, in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental and Development Studies in Cameroon (CEDC), organised a training workshop in Maroua on 13 February for ten women leaders from two communities (Meri and Mokolo) affected by fluorosis. The training was focused on how to use fluoride removal filters and was the result of a project on how to improve WASH services.

GWP and UNICEF Launch Website on WASH Climate Resilience

GWP continues engaging on WASH climate resilience through its collaboration with UNICEF. A Strategic Framework was developed to provide WASH service delivery that is resilient to climate change, and a series of technical briefs and learning modules support the implementation of the Framework. All materials are now available on a new website.

Benin, a network for women in the water sector established

Benin has established a Network of Professional Women in the Water and Sanitation Sector (RBFPEA) on 11 May 2018 in Cotonou to promote the involvement of professional women in the implementation of actions and projects and highlight their contribution to the development of the sector. CWP-Benin strongly supported the initiative.

Youth in Central and Eastern Europe fights plastic pollution in rivers

Earlier in 2017 a newly established Youth Water Community Central and Eastern Europe started a project about the reduction of plastic pollution in the river Ishmi in Albania. The project’s first activity was a workshop with local students that took place on 5 December at the Agricultural University of Tirana.

Côte d’Ivoire, draft Volta Basin Water Charter reviewed

A draft water charter was submitted for review by the Volta Basin Authority during a national workshop held on 05 and 06 July 2018 in Grand Bassam. The official ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Water and Forestry (MINEF), represented by Colonel ME Kouamé Martial, Deputy Director of Cabinet of the MINEF.
