The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has worked on water for food issues for over four decades, and therefore the decision to join the Water ChangeMaker Awards as a Knowledge Partner was a happy one, says Claudia Ringler, Deputy Division Director of IFPRI's Environment and Production Technology Division. According to her, all water decisions affect climate resilience in one way or another.

The African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), along with the other co-convenors of the High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa adopted a roadmap during their inaugural meeting hosted by AMCOW and the Global Center on Adaptation in Rotterdam, Netherlands on 7 September 2021.

Trinidad and Tobago held a virtual consultation on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 6.5.1 – which tracks the degree of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) implementation. This is the first in a series of 60+ in-country consultations coordinated by GWP this year, in collaboration with the UNEP-DHI Centre and Cap-Net UNDP, under the guidance of the UN Environment Programme. After almost five years since the initiation of the administrative process to change its legal status, Country Water Partnership, Cameroon (GWP-Cmr) is now an NGO following a Ministerial Decree n° 00000005 of April 1st 2020. This change in status brings along a number of advantages the possibility to seek direct funding from government ministries and related organizations in order to advance its mission of ensuring water security in Cameroon. In an interview with the Chair of GWP-Cmr, Mr. Mamoudou Ousman talks about GWP- Cmr, what prompted the need for a legal status change, benefits and challenges, and shares lessons learnt with other Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) in the GWP-CAF network looking to change their legal status.

As part of the implementation of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Readiness Proposal for the Central African Republic, the Global Water Partnership Central Africa (GWP-CAf) is looking for a Project Coordinator. He/She will be in charge of coordinating and managing the project, as well as carrying out analysis on climate finance opportunities, monitoring, and decision-making.

GWP-WA together with IUCN-PACO and PREE project coordinating unit held an hybrid (part face to face and part virtually) Steering Committee meeting on 27 and 28 July, 2021.

GWP is co-convenor of a Virtual Workshop on legal frameworks for transboundary water cooperation, held on 28-29 July. The UNECE-led event is tailored to support the preparation of a checklist to assist countries and/or other relevant stakeholders in the design and drafting of agreements.

Joyce Najm Mendez describes herself as a technoxamanist, TEDx lecturer, STEM advocate and social entrepreneur working on the water-energy-food nexus and transboundary cooperation. She is a MSc candidate in Sustainability and Adaptation Planning at the Centre of Alternative Technology, UK, and she has co-founded several organisations in Latin America, tackling mainly sustainability and adaptation-mitigation of climate change. In this article, she shares some of her experiences. She says that “working with young people means investing in the present, and the opportunity for real change in the civilisation paradigm.”

The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is celebrated annually on 17 June to raise awareness around desertification and drought. GWP Senior Water & Climate Specialist Valentin Aich, who works on the Technical Support Unit of the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP), shares some insights on what’s currently on the IDMP agenda. One of the major activities is expanding the programme to Caucasus and Central Asia (CACENA). Aich is passionate about this but explains that it is a process that will take years to achieve – however, all the elements are now in place and the time is right.
