The 15th Steering Committee meeting of the Regional Water Partnership for Central Africa (GWP-CAf) held from 3rd -4th November 2021 followed by the 7th General Assembly on November 5th, 2021, in Douala.

(Ouagadougou, 7 April 2020) - The World is going through a serious health crisis linked to the spread of Covid 19. The pandemic is affecting almost all African countries, including the 15 West African States. Covid-19 could seriously affect the nations and populations of West Africa in their daily lives and economic activities given the fragility of health systems, informal economy and precarious urban systems.

GWP is collaborating with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat and other partners to create a vision and plausible water solutions of a desirable climate-resilient future in 2030 and beyond. The new initiative is called "Water Resilience Frontiers: Pathways for transformational Climate Resilient Water Security in 2030 and Beyond". The initiative is part of the UNFCCC Nairobi Work Programme’s Resilience Frontiers. The UNFCCC is convening a Resilience Lab for the duration of COP25. In a bid to ensure that the Republic of Congo National Water and Sanitation Policy document takes into account all sectors related to water and directly addresses the challenges of the WASH sector in the country, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources with the support of GWP-CAf and UNICEF organized a two day stakeholder consultation workshop from 25th – 26th November 2020 in Brazzaville.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR5), the effects of climate change will reduce renewable surface water and groundwater resources in most dry subtropical regions. These changes may intensify competition for water among all sectors, strain already water-scarce environments, and negatively impact water quality and quantity globally. Transboundary water basins are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, says Sonja Koeppel, Secretary of the UNECE Water Convention, as she highlights the up-coming Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on freshwater security that GWP is developing together with partners.

GWP's annual Network Meeting 2019 is coming up. Based on the successful participation of so many Partners at last year’s meeting, an online ‘Follow the Sun’ consultation will be held on 25-26 June. GWPSA's consultation will take place on the 25th June 2019 from 12:00-14:00.
