Reinforcing partnerships between GWP-Med, Agrhymet and the National Water Resources in Mauritania to enhance hydro-climate services in Mauritania

On 26 April 2018, a successful meeting was held in Nouakchott in Mauritania between GWP-Med, the National Center for Water Resources in Mauritania (CNRE) and the Regional Centre of Agro-Hydro-Meteorology (AGRHYMET) leading to collaboration agreement on concrete steps to support CNRE on water resources monitoring and evaluation as well as hydro-climate services delivery.

A Local Water Committee (CLE) plan to manage the Mékrou basin head in Benin

CWP Benin is supporting two (2) municipalities of the Pendjari and Mekrou sub-basins in the establishment of Local Water Committees (LWCs) as part of the implementation of the component of component B of the second phase of the Water, Hygiene and Sanitation Programme (ProSEHA2) on the "Promotion of IWRM in the sub-basins of the Mekrou and Pendjari".

GWP Approved to Support Countries with GCF Readiness

During the UNFCCC COP25 climate change conference in Madrid, GWP received news that it had passed the “Financial Management Capacity Assessment” (FMCA) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This approval enables GWP to be a delivery partner of countries to access the GCF Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme (the Readiness Programme).

NCWR Programme: 10 years of impact in the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean is a region rich in history but poor in water resources. The dry landscape led ancient civilisations to seek alternative resources to supply water in their communities. Local wisdom prompted the construction of cisterns to collect rainwater. Rain harvesting is a simple yet revolutionary idea, as it is a cost-efficient practice utilising a sustainable non conventional water source, embodying recycling and reuse principles. Translating traditional practices into modern solutions to address water scarcity was the starting point of the Non Conventional Water Resources Programme in the Mediterranean in 2008.

WASH Climate Resilience Webinar

With the incidence of droughts and flooding increasing, WASH Climate Resilience has been identified as an important priority for the GWP network and its sector partners. In response to this, GWP joined forces with UNICEF to develop a Strategic Framework for WASH Climate Resilience and technical programming guidance to implement the Framework in countries.

World Toilet Day 2018

World Toilet Day, celebrated on 19 November, is about taking action to ensure that everyone has a safe toilet by 2030. This is part of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: sanitation and water. The 2018 theme of the day is "When Nature Calls". On the occasion of the day, GWP will do a Facebook Live interview with Kanika Thakar, Founder of #ToiletTalk.
