Two pilot actions are being implemented in Niger, the first in Kankantouti (Torodi) and the second one in both Gardiberi and Koygolo (Dosso).
In Kankantouti, a site of one hectare fenced by means of wire mesh, where PROGIS made it possible to produce two market garden wells, put 401 linear meters (ml) of wire fence, 200 ml of The Californian irrigation network, dig 7 distribution basins and develop a nursery for the biological protection of the site.
GWP Partner Warsaw University of Life Sciences, together with other partners restores and maintains the wetland in Kampinoski National Park in a LIFE-financed project Kampinos Wetlands.
The Chair, Executive Secretary and Communication and Knowledge Management Officer of GWP-WA paid a support visit to the Country Water Partnership (CWP) of Niger from 09 to 14 April 2018. The purpose of the visit was to provide support to the Niger CWP for greater visibility among the authorities and strategic partners in the country in order to accompany it in carrying out its missions.
The delegation accompanied by the CWP had meetings with authorities and some strategic partners.
Global Technical Committee (TEC) members mingled with the regional TEC and some partners of GWP West Africa on 10th to 12th April 2017 in Accra, Ghana. The occasion was a training on Collaborative modelling for decision support in Integrated Water Resources Management.
In the face of profound global water challenges, on World Water Day 2018 five global multi-stakeholder partnerships representing business, governments, intergovernmental organisations, academia, and civil society organisations announced a new collaboration effort designed to accelerate progress toward ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation around the world. Representatives of Asian and Pacific countries, stakeholder groups and development and humanitarian partners will gather in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, 3-6 July, for the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR). GWP will be represented at the event.
The members of the Steering Committee of the Partnership for Environmental Governance in West Africa - PAGE met in Ouagadougou for the third session of the Committee on 8 February 2017. The meeting was meant to assess the progress made and make a prospective analysis of the program.
From 20-24 November 2017, CWP-Benin represented by Rachel ARAYE took part in the Sharing Skills Seminar organized by the VIA WATER programme in Ghana. This seminar was hosted by the ISGC (International Student Guest Centre) and attended by 26 innovative project leaders on water, sanitation and agriculture issues from seven (7) countries: Benin, Mali, Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya, Mozambique and India.
The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) signed on Wednesday, 21 June 2017 in Niamey a collaboration agreement between The two institutions. The idea of signing such a collaborative framework document has been issued since 2009 but could not be realized.
