Under WACDEP Project, GWPEA works together with local populations in Bugesera to protect lake Cyohoha buffer zone by planting conservation and fruit trees along the lake shorelines.

Apart from making effort in re-establishing the partnership, Stakeholders in Tanzania have been involved in a number of activities. Recent activities have included:

1. TWP, Ministry of Water and Irrigation sign MoU to promote sustainable management and development of water resources in Tanzania

2. 10th African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) and The 6th Africa Water Week (18-22 July, 2016, Julius Nyrere International Convening Centre, Dar es Salaam

3. Sustainable Development Goals and Water Preparedness Facility (SDG Water-Preparedness Facilities (PF) Project, 2016.

CWP Benin has engaged a wide operation to communicate on the topic of the Day by organizing debates on the television and a conference in partnership with component C of the Urban Water Urban Emergency Project.

New challenges related to water have strongly emerged in the Mediterranean like those linked with increased migration flows due to conflict, social unrest and degradation of natural resources and well as changing consumption patterns. Linked with these, employment challenges, particularly for the younger generation and women, remain central and in need of long term approaches and substantial action.

Sri Lanka Water partnership (SLWP) together with the Wetland Management Unit of Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Cooperation (SLLRDC) organised an Interactive seminar on Water and Wetlands for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to mark the World Water Day 2017 (WWD 2017).

On 28 October 2017, Prof. WANG Hao, Standing Vice Chair of GWP China and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering showed on “VOICE” which is prevalent for talking with young audiences and sharing with them diversely natural knowledge. "Nature is the true treasure", he said on the TV show.

On May 23-25, 2017, the fourth south-south interregional water cooperation gathered GWP China, Central Asia and Caucasus, South Asia and South East Asia, four Regional Water Partnerships, in Pokhara, Nepal.

The Summer University of Samothraki 2016 took place on 9 - 22 July 2016 on the island of Samothraki in Greece. The summer university consisted of two parallel courses: Course A on “Aquatic and Social Ecology-Theory and Practice” and Course B on “Integrated Water and Coastal Management - Educational and Participatory Approaches”.

Coinciding with the meeting of the GWP Steering Committee (SC), a High Level Roundtable on Water Security and the SDGs was held in Yangon, Myanmar on May 24, 2016.

Over-exploitation of water resources, water regime modifications, water contamination, and a growing number of flood events—negative effects of which are amplified by climate change—are all issues that require harmonised, integrated actions from management authorities in countries that share river basins.
