Since inception in 2018, #TonFuturTonClimat has been implemented in Togo through the Youth Support Project for the Protection of the Environment, Water and Soil (PAJPEES) in Danyi-Apéyémé. To assess the activities already implemented and those in progress, a participatory evaluation was carried out in February.
Global Water Partnership (GWP) organised an online, peer-to-peer exchange with leaders of the country platforms of GWP on Thursday 21 January 2021, focusing on how to mobilise and engage for stronger Country Water Partnerships - CWPs (and other GWP country platforms).
With over 54 shared river basins in Africa, cooperation in the management and development of transboundary water resources is a key building block towards regional and economic integration. However, the pace of investment in transboundary water projects in Africa remains very slow hampering progress towards the continent’s economic growth aspirations and 2030 SDG targets.
GWP is collaborating with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat and other partners to create a vision and plausible water solutions of a desirable climate-resilient future in 2030 and beyond. The new initiative is called "Water Resilience Frontiers: Pathways for transformational Climate Resilient Water Security in 2030 and Beyond". The initiative is part of the UNFCCC Nairobi Work Programme’s Resilience Frontiers. The UNFCCC is convening a Resilience Lab for the duration of COP25. A workshop on "The status of water resources management: legal and institutional aspects” was organized to strengthen the technical capacity of women sitting as non-state members (NSA) of the national water council in order fort hem tob e active in the debates oft he NWC.
GWP-Med, as key partner to the Cairo Water Week since its launch in 2018, co-organised and facilitated a day-event and two sessions, giving a strong message for enhanced focus on facilitating investments in the water sector, the role of gender in water diplomacy and mobilizing Young Professionals in the fight to meet the SDGs.
To contribute to closing the visibility gap between entrepreneurs, investors and enablers in the “Water Nexus”, the 4IP Group and Waterpreneurs are co-organising a matchmaking forum for sustainable development in Lusaka, Zambia, on 19-20 June. GWP Southern Africa is an event partner.
Within the framework of Water Climate Development Program- Gender (WACDEP-G), GWP-CAf organized the first WACDEP-G capacity building workshop in the region on October 14th 2020 in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The Country Water Partnership of Benin (CWP-Benin), the country office of the Pan African Intergovernmental Agency Water and Sanitation for Africa (WSA-Benin), the Solutis company and the National Water Utility Company of Benin (Soneb) have jointly organized on Wednesday 18 July 2018 a validation workshop of the study report on the "Inventory of existing warning systems in Benin and the sub-region", in the framework of the implementation of the SAC-TIC project.
