GWP West Africa together with the West and Central Africa Programme of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN / PACO) and the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of Coastal and Marine area in West Africa (PRCM) gathered the winners of the water and environment journalism award. The action took place on 25 November 2017 as a side event at the PRCM regional Forum that held from 23 to 27 November in Conakry, Guinea.

The regional secretariat has continued activities to strengthen the collaboration with strategic partners at regional level. After 2017 year ending activities with the Volta Basin Authority, a meeting was held on 31st January 2018 at VBA to exchange on concrete actions to carry out jointly by the two institutions.

Jakarta, 27 November 2018 -- A discussion to evaluate the cause of land subsidence in Jakarta was held in the Ministry of Public Works, Republic of Indonesia premises. Several experts from various technical background were presented their findings. Floods are a recurrent natural calamity in Pakistan, followed by earthquakes, cyclones and drought. However, drought is more damaging than floods in terms of food insecurity. Evidence of chronic water shortages have been painfully evident in some parts of Pakistan in recent years, due to low rainfall and extreme variations in temperature.

The partners of the IDMP WA Platform were gathered in Léo to finalize the training manual on drought risk management in the context of IWRM in West Africa. This is a follow up action of the workshop on the review and adaptation to the Sahelian context of the training manual on drought risk reduction in an IWRM context, held from 26 to 29 July 2016 in Kaya, Burkina Faso

The regional center AGRHYMET together with NBA, JRC and GWP-WA organized the final workshop for the synthesis of scientific activities of the Mekrou Project. The event took place in Niamey, Niger from 7 to 8 December 2017.

In Guinea, some activities were planned by the CWP, but political instability did not allow to carry them out.

GWP South Asia (GWP SAS) appointed six Regional Council members for the period of 2019 to 2021.

The seventh ECOSOC Youth Forum will be held on 30-31 January at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA. This is an opportunity for young people to share their perspectives and engage on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Aiming to raise awareness on the criticality of not wasting water in the islands and beyond, GWP-Med launched a new campaign titled #savewater at the beginning of summer in Greece.
