The Executive Secretary of GWP-WA, Mr. Armand HOUANYE, on a working visit to Togo, met on 19 February 2019 with national partners to discuss the revitalization of the Togo Country Water Partnership (CWP Togo).
Jointly organized by the Global Water Partnership, the International Secretariat for Water and UNESCO-IHP, the session “How can intergenerational dialogue facilitate youth inclusion in decision making?” was held on 29 August 2019 at World Water Week 2019.
“Since childhood, I was always in awe of everything related to the development sector. I had the ambition to help the disadvantaged populations in my country and in Africa”, says Félicité Vodounhessi, Programme Officer for GWP West Africa. Africa's population is projected to reach 1.6 billion by 2030, which translates into a need to produce at least 50% more food; and at least a tenfold increase in water needs for energy production to support socio-economic development. These challenges and the resultant increase in water demand are further aggravated by rapid urbanization and industrialisation. This requires huge investments in water to satisfy the social and economic demands among other things.
The African continent is endowed with vast water resources, which if not managed and developed well, cannot support food and energy production as well sustainable development - says Dr. Kuiri F. Tjipangandjara, Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) Board Chairman.
