This year's topic of the Danube Water Conference, held on 20-21 May 2019 was “Achieving resilience in water and wastewater utilities in the Danube region”.
On 11 September 2019, GWP, together with the World Bank and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), launched a new working paper: “Framework for the Assessment of Benefits of Action/Cost of Inaction (BACI) for Drought Preparedness.” The launch took place on the Drought Preparedness Day at the 14th UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP14), held in New Delhi, India.
Represented by its Regional Coordinator, Mr. Hycinth BANSEKA, the GWP-CAf Secretariat actively participated in various sessions, particularly those on "The Contextual Analysis of Sanitation in Gabon: Opportunities and Perspectives (in relation to the SDGs)" organized by the Ministry of Water and Energy of Gabon and "Water security, infrastructure, investment and innovation".
On 29-30 November 2018, GWPEA organized a media field visit for selected media outlets/practicing journalists drawn from seven media houses to explore further the aspects of drought risk management in Mubende, Uganda and develop stories to be aired in Uganda as well as potential case studies.
The activities under this focus area are aimed at generating and sharing knowledge from experiences in implementing selected interventions in the region. The experiences will be generated from a critical analysis of the work that has been implemented through the implementation of the regional water programme.
GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf) supports the monitoring and implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the sub-region. To ensure progress in IWRM, GWP-CAf has been supporting states since 2018 in the monitoring of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 6.5.1, and is providing further support in identifying obstacles hindering, and key activities required to accelerate IWRM implementation in the short (2021), medium (2025) and long (2030) term in Central Africa.
The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) is reaching out to all its Partners to search for a new Regional Chairperson. The new GWPSA Chair will serve for a four-year term from November 2019- November 2023.
