Two days training for the South Asian government counterparts on GIS and Remote Sensing technologies for mapping water storage

The fifth cohort meeting and the Progress Meeting of Bhutan of the Built Water Storage, South Asia project were held back-to-back from 27 to 30 August 2024 in Paro, Bhutan. The focuses of these gatherings were to present the Bhutan Cohort on the Policy and Institutional Study of Water Storage and Water Storage mapping on Bhutan and to provide hands-on experience for all the cohort members on the application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies to map and assess water storage across diverse landscapes.

Africa’s Water Investment Scorecard Shows Progress, But Underscores Urgent Need to Scale Finance and Delivery

Africa’s leaders have placed water and sanitation at the heart of the continent’s development agenda, with a commitment to mobilise at least USD 30 billion annually for climate-resilient water security and WASH services by 2030. The AIP-PIDA Water Investment Scorecard, endorsed to strengthen accountability and engagement with investors, has become a primary instrument to track progress and guide action.

A regional forum to document IWRM best practices for water security in West Africa

GWP-WA in collaboration with the WAEMU Commission, the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Sanitation of Burkina Faso, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Burkina Faso, Pôle Eau Dakar, the Secretariat of the Water Convention, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)-DHI Centre on Water and the Environment and partners, is involved in a regional forum on the theme: "Capitalization and scaling up of IWRM best practices for water security and population resilience in the WAEMU Space" from November 28 to 30, 2023 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The session coordinated by GWP-WA was held on Thursday 23 May 2024 at the Senegal Pavilion during the World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia. Facilitated by the GWP-WA Chair, Mr Abdoulaye SENE, it featured the distinguished visits of the Senegalese Minister for Water and Sanitation, Dr Cheick Tidiane DIEYE, and the Executive Secretary/CEO of GWPO, Mr Alan ATKISSOON.
