During the 5^th Meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Water Expert Group (WEG) in November 2015, a UfM Ministerial Conference on Water has been proposed to take place the first semester of 2017 in Malta. The technical process towards that was launched  with the WEG mandating a Drafting Group to elaborate on technical contents, in case the political partners decide to convene the suggested ministerial meeting.

Global Technical Committee (TEC) members mingled with the regional TEC and some partners of GWP West Africa on 10th to 12th April 2017 in Accra, Ghana. The occasion was a training on Collaborative modelling for decision support in Integrated Water Resources Management.

Armand Houanye, new Executive Secretary of GWP WA with outing Dam MOGBANTE and IDMP project manager Félicité VODOUNHESSI met the Volta Basin Authority Executive Director with some of his staff at the VBA premises on October 18, 2017.

The rapid population growth in cities, coupled with a changing climate pose great challenges for both people and nature. An integrated water management approach is required to achieve resilience while creating a livable urban environment.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) together with the International Authority on Development (IGAD), the Water Hub, the Africa Network on Basin Organizations (ANBO), UNECE, Makerere University and other partners organized a regional training on Water Governance and International Water Law for Transboundary Water Management in Africa in Entebbe, Uganda from 25-27 June 2018

'Our Future Water Berlin' is a global event that invites all current leaders and future leaders to attend to achieve water security for today's and future generations. It takes place in Berlin, Germany on 7 November 2018.

On 28 October 2017, Prof. WANG Hao, Standing Vice Chair of GWP China and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering showed on “VOICE” which is prevalent for talking with young audiences and sharing with them diversely natural knowledge. "Nature is the true treasure", he said on the TV show.

The regional secretariat has continued activities to strengthen the collaboration with strategic partners at regional level. After 2017 year ending activities with the Volta Basin Authority, a meeting was held on 31st January 2018 at VBA to exchange on concrete actions to carry out jointly by the two institutions.
