Working to Bridge the Finance Gap in Jordan’s Water Sector

GWP Mediterranean has been working actively in Jordan for over a decade, assisting the country’s water sector to meet the challenging demands it faces. Much of the work has been centered around sustainable water financing. In the past year, a significant breakthrough was made when a government-led collaboration with the Jordanian banking sector was established.

8th SADC Multi-stakeholder Water Dialogue - Strengthening sectoral engagement and Nexus approaches

The SADC Multi-Stakeholder Water Dialogue is an event organised by the SADC Directorate of Infrastructure and Services, Water Division to provide a forum for practitioners in the region to have a dialogue with water using and water influencing sectors. The underlying objective is to ensure that the interventions in the water sector are well communicated to the non-water sector actors and also create an environment to receive inputs from them. Niger, Mekrou 2 Project to focus on field actions for the populations

The Country Water Partnership of Niger together with the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation through the Permanent Secretariat for IWRM (SP/PANGIRE), the Directorate General of Water Resources (DGRE) by Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) have submitted a project proposal “Water for growth and poverty reduction in the Mekrou sub-basin in Niger” or "Mekrou Project Phase 2 - NIGER".

Background

In June 2017, the Government of the Republic of South Africa, under the aegis of the High Level Panel on Water (HLPW) commissioned the Global Water Partnership (GWP) to develop a legacy initiative of the HLPW in Africa. In response, the Africa Water Investment Programme (AIP) was developed by GWP in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Development Programme Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF) and the HLPW Secretariat at the World Bank/UN.

Phase II of the Nexus Assessment in the Drin Basin moving ahead

The scope and detailed outline of the Phase II Nexus Assessment for the Drin river basin, together with related activities, were presented and discussed in the 7th Drin Stakeholders Conference and 18th Drin Core Group Meeting held in Tirana, Albania on 29-30 January 2020. It follows up on the Phase I Nexus Assessment that was completed in 2019 as part of the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) for the Drin river basin.

Accelerating IWRM Monitoring and Implementation in 60+ Countries

As part of the UN SDG 6 Data Drive, the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme is substantially scaling up its efforts in 2020 by facilitating 60+ in-country processes across the world to assist national stocktaking and reporting, and more importantly, to support transformative action towards a greater implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
