Benin has established a Network of Professional Women in the Water and Sanitation Sector (RBFPEA) on 11 May 2018 in Cotonou to promote the involvement of professional women in the implementation of actions and projects and highlight their contribution to the development of the sector. CWP-Benin strongly supported the initiative.

The annual GWP Network Meeting will be held on 11 October at 13.00 Central European Time (CET). It is a virtual meeting, to be broadcast on the GWP website www.gwp.org – with a special guest message from UN Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Jan Eliasson. The 2017 meeting of the Regional Advisory Committee of the Global Coordination Mechanism of the Mekrou Project held on 15 and 16 June 2017 in Niamey, Niger. The meeting aimed at validating the choice of a preferential scenario for the draft Strategic Framework for Water Security (SFWS) in the Mékrou basin. The Advisory Committee is expected to choose a preferential scenario to enable the consultant to develop it in detail by incorporating the needs for modifications of the action plans for adaptation to extreme events at the basin level as well as at the country level, the procedures for their management and the mapping of the actors concerned.

Mina Guli is CEO of Thirst and a member of the GWP Steering Committee. In November she will embark on a mission to complete 100 marathons in 100 days – with the single goal of raising awareness around the global water crisis. In a Facebook Live interview from 15 June, she describes her motivation to work for a water secure world, and how she hopes to engage people all around the world in her campaign #RunningDry.

Facilitating the Lancang-Mekong Water Cooperation Center (LMWCC), the Yangtze River Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources (YZCC) and the ASEAN, GWP China promotes interregional exchange and communications between the young professionals and governmental officials in China on June 25-July 3, 2018.

The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa’s newly launched Project Preparation Partnership for Climate-resilient Water Projects invites suitable candidates to apply for the position of: Senior Advisor: Technical Support for Capacity Building and Implementation of the GWP – UNICEF Strategic Framework for WASCH Climate Resilience.

For transboundary water collaboration of the Lancang-Mekong River Basin countries, GWP China Region and GWP Southeast Region, with the GWPO support, have set up a partnership with the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center (LMWRCC). It has an initiative harvest in early December 2017.

From 7 July 2018 the Programme for the Integrated Management of the Fouta Djallon Highlands is considered as transferred from the African Union to the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS).
