GWP Nigeria held a meeting on April 6, attended by a member of the BOT, Steering Committee and TEC members.

The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa participated in the recently held Water Show Africa 2017. The event, organised by Terrapinn Pty Ltd was held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa on 28-29 March 2017. The overall event theme centred around “Strategy and Innovation for Water Utilities, Operators, Partners and End Users”

The official launch to restore the head source of the Mekrou basin was done on 20 June 2017 by the Mayor of Kouandé as part of the implementation of the Pilot Project to Support the Restoration of the Mekrou Basin (PAREM). This is the start of the campaign for the reforestation the site of “Makrou wirou” in the neighborhoods of Birni (commune of Kouandé).

Representatives of Asian and Pacific countries, stakeholder groups and development and humanitarian partners will gather in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, 3-6 July, for the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR). GWP will be represented at the event.

The Youth H₂O forum joined a number of stakeholders in commemorating World Water Day which fell on 22^nd March 2016. The day was commemorated in two different places. The main event was held in Choma Southern province on the 21^st March, and the other event was held in Lusaka at Mtendere Clinic. 

Floods are a recurrent natural calamity in Pakistan, followed by earthquakes, cyclones and drought. However, drought is more damaging than floods in terms of food insecurity. Evidence of chronic water shortages have been painfully evident in some parts of Pakistan in recent years, due to low rainfall and extreme variations in temperature.

Two pilot actions are being implemented in Niger, the first in Kankantouti (Torodi) and the second one in both Gardiberi and Koygolo (Dosso). In Kankantouti, a site of one hectare fenced by means of wire mesh, where PROGIS made it possible to produce two market garden wells, put 401 linear meters (ml) of wire fence, 200 ml of The Californian irrigation network, dig 7 distribution basins and develop a nursery for the biological protection of the site.

2017 marks the 2nd year that a dedicated MENA Regional Focus is part of the Stockholm World Water Weeks’ programme, alongside the regional days for Africa, Asia and Latin America. The overall coordination of the MENA Focus has been entrusted to GWP-Med that works closely with key regional partners, each leading targeted sessions, to ensure that the region’s priorities are duly reflected in the Water Week’s programme.

2017 marks the 2nd year that a dedicated MENA Regional Focus is part of the Stockholm World Water Weeks’ programme, alongside the regional days for Africa, Asia and Latin America. The overall coordination of the MENA Focus has been entrusted to GWP-Med that works closely with key regional partners, each leading targeted sessions, to ensure that the region’s priorities are duly reflected in the Water Week’s programme.
