In Bolivia, shifts towards the privatisation of water supply and sewage services caused strong dissatisfaction, resulting in the eruption of social conflict. Because of the severe dissatisfaction, action was taken to cancel the previous agreements and instead launch a forum where government representatives, social organizations, the private sector and municipalities participate to formulate of a new policy. This case illustrates the crucial importance of rooting policies with the public.

Across the globe, March 8th is recognised as the United Nations’ International Women’s Day (IWD). This year, the theme is “The Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives.”

March 22 marks World Water Day 2017. This year’s theme is wastewater. GWP has published two blogs about the theme, and conducted a Facebook Live interview with Rami Abdel Rahman of the Sweden Textile Water Initiative. Around the GWP Network, various celebrations are taking place. An electronic consultation of the Steering Committee members was organized from 21 to 30 March 2017. According to the Statutes, two SC meeting should be organized every year, one of which should be virtual in order to reduce costs related to statutory meetings.

(Ouagadougou, October 09, 2017) - The West and Central Africa Programme of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN / PACO), the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of Coastal and Marine area in West Africa and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) released today October 9, 2017 the names of the winners of the fourth edition of the "Water and Environment Journalism" competition. The competition which was launched on August 1, 2017 for one month had two price categories: Continental Waters and Marine and coastal waters. Two winners were selected for each category. This fourth edition registered the participation of many journalists from several countries in West Africa. The winners are as follows:
