The National Youth Parliament for Water and Sanitation in Benin organized on August 26, 2015 with the support of the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP Benin) and GIZ, in Cotonou, a workshop to validate the report of the national consultation on the place of youth in the governance of water and food security in the context of climate change. The workshop was attended by several youth organizations, the Advisory Body for Youth, public institutions and technical and financial partners involved in the water sector, food security and climate change in Benin.

GWP is gearing up for its continued support to countries on climate change adaptation, leading towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement. GWP activities under the Global Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) aim to strengthen the resilience of countries to climate change, and more specifically support to countries will focus around the Nationally Determined Contributions, the National Adaptation Plan processes, South-South Cooperation, and financing.

The unique value of GWP lies in its capability to mobilise action on the global water crisis through a combination of social capital, shared values, credibility within the global water community, bottom-up orientation, and expertise. This ensures that the ‘voices of water’ can influence local, national, regional, and global development priorities.

GWP China has played its role as a neutral platform for equal communication and dialogues at all levels, promoting IWRM knowledge, raising funds and sharing knowledge of IWRM and contributes to the implementation of the ‘strictest water resources management system’ in China.

The Executive Secretary of GWP, Rudolph Cleveringa, says that GWP as a network needs to change: “We can’t use the same agenda as we did 20 years ago”. In our interview series marking GWP 20 Years, we talk to GWP Steering Committee (SC) member Dr. Gunilla Björklund. Her ties to the network run back all the way to its founding days, and over the years she has been involved in GWP project evaluations as a consult. She says the main challenge as a SC member is to have a global overview while still maintaining an understanding of the details.
