Albania and Montenegro: Creating an Integrated Water Resources Plan for the Buna / Bojana Watershed (#486)

The transboundary Buna / Bojana Watershed is shared by Albania and Montenegro, as well as a long stretch of coastal zone of the Adriatic Sea. The watershed is faced with a variety of pressures, including unsustainable agricultural methods, increased tourism, and altered hydrological regimes from hydropower generation and flood control measures. Albania and Montenegro, while similar socially and economically, differ in their administrative, legal, and institutional frameworks. Regardless, both countries have recognized the need to strengthen their cross-border cooperation through the development of an integrated water resource plan (the Plan) for the watershed.

Training workshop for young volunteers, members of the GWP Network

On Tuesday, June 27, 2017, an important training session was held for 25 young volunteers from the Côte d'Ivoire Country Water Partnership (PNECI) network. Ten years after its creation, PNECI is reassessing its IWRM strategy and decides to correct its approach, which has not really made much progress in the IWRM process at the national level.

Three-day AWC First General Assembly-Summary Report

The 1st Asia Water Council General Assembly was hosted and Co-organized by Ministry of Public Works and Housing and AWC Secretariat on 24-26 March 2016, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and Spa, Bali, Indonesia. The AWC was established by 15 Founders of Countries and international Agencies since the 7th World Water Week in Korea. The AWC aims to raise global awareness of Asia’s water problems and promote the sustainable development of Asia by resolving regional water issues. The General Assembly aimed to discuss the AWC Constitution and the operation plan for the AWC and to share the commitments from Founders. The General Assembly was attended by about 200 participants from about 50 organizations including Minister, Vice-Minister, Directors General, Directors, Chairpersons, AWC Secretariat, national and international organizations from Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia such as UNESCO-IHP, FAO, and ADB (Asian Development Bank), KOICA,  Representative of GWP SEA, Country Water Partnership of Indonesia, national agencies etc.

M. Bila Compaoré nicknamed Moussa is the chief of the Kogoloweogo association set up since the early 80’s during the revolution period for the reforestation through tree planting in Komki Ipala, 45 km in the west of Ouagadougou. The association involves most of the population of the village of Komki Ipala but is ruled by a group of 21 persons including four women. He is almost 60 but very active and enterprising. “The implementation of this project taught us lots of things that I will personally try to implement in my own field such as making bunches, surrounding walls, land scarification or semi moon to capture rain for the soil”, says Moussa.

Prof. MAIGA has met with Mali Country Water Partnership (CWP) on October 12, 2017 and the discussions were focused on the necessity for CWP Mali to improve their management and comply with GWP partners’ policy.

Final Workshop of the scientific component of the Mekrou project in Niamey 7 to 9 December 2017

This workshop will allow a comprehensive presentation of the activities/results of the scientific component of the Mekrou project, and also the installation of all developed or adapted tools (SWAT, EPIC, REFRAN CV, AquaSurvey, PostgreSQL, E-Water), on the computers of all participants and on new machines for scientific and technical structures (AGRHYMET, NBA, and 1 for each country).
