Water is a key component of ensuring climate action. A GWP delegation was in Bonn, Germany, to convey this message and raise the profile of water at the UN climate talks, COP23, which took place 6-17 November. Rapid implementation to the Paris Agreement is paramount to battle climate change. Water is integral to build climate resilience and is therefore a crucial component of implementing the Paris Agreement. And GWP is well positioned to help countries deliver on the adaptation components of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The Tanzania Water Partnership together with representatives of the 10 -member states of the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) and other stakeholders converged at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to commemorate Nile Day on February 22nd 2017.

The Ghana Country Water Partnership (CWP-Ghana), in collaboration with the Federation of Environmental Journalists (FEJ) of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) organised a “Learn and Share” Seminar under the theme “Dynamics of Environmental Reporting”. The seminar was held on 10^th March, 2016 at GIJ Seminar Room.

 

CWP Mali held on 11 and 12 April 2017 a workshop on the sustainable management of the industrial wate of Sotuba, a district in Bamako with many industries. The event was organized in collaboration with the national agency of cleaning stations of Mali under the patronage of the Minister of environment, sanitation and sustainable development represented by his General Secretary, Mr. Abdoulaye BERTHE.

The period between 2011 and 2016 saw Global Water Partnership Africa Coordination Unit (GWP –CU) mobilising Euro 19.5 million for water security and climate resilience development in Africa through the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).

The Ghana Country Water Partnership (CWP-Ghana) hosted the 7th Technical Coordination workshop of the Water, Climate and Development Program (WACDEP) from Monday 5th October to Wednesday 7th October, 2015 at the La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. The purpose of the meeting was to share progress, approaches and lessons learnt in delivering the WACDEP outputs in the 8 countries rolling out the program. It also served as a platform to discuss the key constraints and opportunities identified during implementation, and set the stage for scaling up WACDEP implementation.

GWP representatives are at the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany, taking place 16-26 May. The focus is on GWP support for the implementation of the Paris Agreement, specifically in relation to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) from countries, the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes, South-South Cooperation, and financing. On Thursday 19 May GWP is co-organising a high level side event together with the Government of Morocco, the UNFCCC Secretariat Adaptation Programme, and GIZ.

GWP partners with 2,800+ registered organisations that share its aims and values in tackling the sustainable development, management, and use of water resources.

Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWP-SA) has entered into a partnership with Water Hygiene Convenience (WHC) to support job creation and SDG implementation on the continent.

A key challenge for policy and advocacy organisations like GWP is demonstrating direct attribution between its work and the outcomes and impact that this work was designed to influence. To better describe and understand this attribution gap, GWP has in place a comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system that consists of a hybrid of two methodologies; outcome mapping and traditional results-based management.
