The Board of Directors of Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) is pleased to announce that Mr. Alex Simalabwi has been named the new Executive Secretary, Head of Africa Coordination Unit and GWP’s Global Lead on Climate Resilience. His appointment was effective from 1st January 2017. Mr. Alex Simalabwi succeeds Ms. Ruth Beukman who had served GWPSA since 2003.
The GWPSA is providing support in preparatory work towards the formation of the Buzi, Pungwe, Save Tri-Basin Institute, through the Buzi, Pungwe, Save (BUPUSA) Tri-Basin Project on behalf of the ministries responsible for water resources in the governments of Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The project implementation is being undertaken by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) housed in the Administração Regional de Águas do Centro (ARA) Centro Office in Beira, Mozambique. The PIU has been established to assist the main basin integrated water resources management (IWRM) institutions to plan, coordinate, implement, manage and monitor the activities supported by the project in collaboration with national and international partners.
Improving water security is a prerequisite for growth, development and poverty reduction. Yet, most African countries are far from achieving water security, and without it their development prospects are compromised. This policy brief presents options that deliver immediate development benefits while building resilience to longer term climate change. Tanzania’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MoWI) has appointed Global Water Partnership Tanzania to a National Public Private Partnership (PPP) Task Force whose mandate is to deliver a national action plan for promoting and realizing an enhanced engagement of the private sector in the larger water sector. Submission and presentation of the action plan will be before end of November 2018.
The Youth Scientific Conference on Water was held on 31 October 2018 at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia, Bulgaria.
