The annual GWP Network Meeting 2015 was held as a virtual event for the first time on 1 June in Stockholm, Sweden. GWP Partners worldwide were invited to get the latest update on the network activities through a live stream. The event was also recorded and is now available on the GWP YouTube channel.

In Burkina Faso the first version of the 'Preparatory report on national consultations on water and food security" is completed. The national sharing and validation workshop is planned for late August 2015. The Country Water Partnership is discussing with the appropriate Ministry for the joint organization of the workshop.

In Mali the National Consultation Workshop on Water and Food Security in Mali, led by CWP MALI has already been organized. A follow up meeting for the ownership of the content of the report is scheduled with the Ministry for Food Security and a number of technical services in Mali to make sure the country has a contribution to the next CSA meeting in Rome.

A team of GWP-WA and CWP Burkina PNE had on June 11, 2015 a visit to assess the level of implementation of work on the site of the WACDEP demonstration project in Burkina Faso. This project involves the drip irrigation techniques for the efficient management of agricultural water for the benefit of vulnerable populations in the municipality of Loumbila in the center of the country.

Since the last visit in April 2015 there has been plowing work, the installation of some drip irrigation and water pumping equipment with solar energy, among others.

GWP delegates participated in the UN climate conference in Marrakech, Morocco, in November. Even though water is not central to the negotiations, it is getting increasing attention by the UNFCCC and other stakeholders. In this video, GWP delegates share their thoughts:

The Consultation Framework of Non State Actors in the water and sanitation sector in Benin organized the 4^th edition of the Media Wash Café to share with journalists the results management of the sector water and sanitation in 2014.

 

The unique value of GWP lies in its capability to mobilise action on the global water crisis through a combination of social capital, shared values, credibility within the global water community, bottom-up orientation, and expertise. This ensures that the ‘voices of water’ can influence local, national, regional, and global development priorities.

The Project Officer took part on May 6 and 11 respectively in Burkina and Niger to follow up meetings to discuss the standard template for the drafting of the consultants reports on the identification of national development priorities in the Mékrou basin.
