World Water Day is an annual observance day on 22 March to highlight the importance of the world’s water resources. For GWP, this an important day to be an 'ambassador for water' and the network participates in celebrations around the world in various ways. Here are some of the highlights of 2018.
Water is one of the most basic human needs and is now currently facing multifaceted complexity. From depleted ground aquifers to polluted river, water has been for quite some time under pressures due to urbanization, population growth, industrialization and so forth.
Call: The Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med) is seeking to hire an external Consultant in the framework of the Water, Climate and Development Programme, WACDEP, for the activity : “Mission to support the development of a concept note for water adaptation project in Mauritania for submission to the Green Climate Fund”
In order to be able to achieve the long-term goal of the programme, it is necessary to fully understand the economics of water in a country, river basin or region under consideration. Without this knowledge it is impossible to determine the value of proposed investments or their related costs and benefits. Therefore, it is unlikely that it will be possible to package the required finance for the investment.
Water is a precious gift from God, which is vital for life of the human race and the continuous existence of the functions in the ecosystem. Therefore, water shall be a public asset that shall be managed through participative approaches.
The GWP Latin American International Water Law Training Programme held a successful VIII edition of a regional workshop with focus on La Plata Basin on 26-29 September. It was attended by 23 participants from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay, most of them from public institutions.
