From 26 to 31 January 2015, the Chair of GWP-WA, Pr. Abel AFOUDA and the Network Officer for West Africa, Mr. Manuel FULCHIRON were having a working visit at the Regional Secretariat. For the first meeting of the New Year, the Chair expressed his good wishes in the hope that this year will be shining for GWP-WA to support CWP for greater visibility in the countries.

The Gambia Country Water Partnership (GCWP) is the youngest of the CWPs in West Africa (officially launched in December 2011) is yet to complete its accreditation process as a partner of Global Water Partnership (GWP). Some actions were undertaken since 2014 which didn’t get through. To facilitate the exchange process with country partners in The Gambia, the Executive Secretary decided that the Communication manager goes to Banjul and prepares with them all the needed documentation for the accreditation to be done as soon as possible.

To commemorate GWP’s 20th anniversary, a 2-minute video has been produced explaining – without words – the challenges of the world’s water crises and GWP’s answer: join our network so that all stakeholders can work in partnership to secure water for sustainable development.

Today, 5 October 2015 at the Regional Council Meeting, Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe is releasing a new video about the organization as part of a campaign for welcoming new Partners.

Institutional Partners are the basis on which the GWP network is constructed and operates. Becoming a Partner is a highly valued position and brings with it several key benefits to get the most out of the GWP network.

The Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med) is seeking to hire experts from the Drin Riparians to provide GIS and Database technical assistance to the Project Management Team for the preparation of Thematic Reports that will form part of the Drin Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis.

GWP has sponsorship available for eligible participants to complete the online course in Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources Planning, Management and Governance offered by McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Deadline to apply is 25 August 2016.

Bangkok, Thailand (12/8/2017). Southeast Asia is particularly vulnerable to climate change for several reasons. First and foremost, in many of these countries large portions of the population live in poverty. The proportion of the population living below the poverty line ranges from the lowest in Thailand at 10.2% to 53% in Lao PDR (ADB 2008). The poor are particularly vulnerable to climate change, as they lack the resources necessary for many types of adaptive actions. With its extensive coastlines, Southeast Asia is also home to many millions of people living at low elevations that are at risk from sea level rise. Moreover, ongoing social and environmental challenges in the region – notably growing income inequality, rising food prices, and widespread deforestation – contribute to social vulnerability and make climate change more likely to bring significant harms.

Many participants from West African countries took part in the International Water Law training in Kampala (Uganda) from 6 to 12 June 2016.

The Central and Eastern Europe region, covered by the Global Water Partnership, has a population of 152 million people, a quarter of all Europeans.
