The GWP-Med Secretariat has the overall responsibility for the coordination and day-to-day function of GWP-Med. It implements the oganisation's annual Work Plan corresponding to GWP's Strategy and manages all GWP-Med initiatives, programmes and projects. It is also responsible for the organisation’s outreach activities, and for promoting collaborations and synergies with other organisations, institutes and processes active in the Mediterranean.

On Saturday, December 3rd, 2011, the African Ministers Council on Water in conjunction with the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Department of Water Affairs South Africa, the Global Water Partnership and Water and Climate Coalition arranged an all-day event on Water, Climate and Development in the River Room at the African Pavilion.

Senior Officials from the 43 country members of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) recently approved a project entitled "Overcoming governance challenges to the mobilisation of financing for the Mediterranean water sector", aimed to identify and provide solutions to the lack of basic elements for a sound governance framework for the mobilisation of financing for the water sector in many Mediterranean countries, including absorption capacity at both national and local levels.

 

A Regional Day under the theme of “Improved Efficiency for Increased Resilience to Climate Change: an Integrated Water Resources Management Perspective”, and a seminar on “Different Capacities, Different Roles – Empowering South Asian Women for Climate Change Adaptation” were jointly organised by GWP South Asia, GWP-India and WAPCOS Ltd at the recently concluded India Water Week 2013 held in New Delhi, India. Both events witnessed a large number of participants and lively panel discussions. The South Asia Climate Resiliency and Water Security Programme (WAter and Climate REsilience Programme – WACREP) was also launched as part of the Regional Day.

On the fourth MyCWP Partners’ meeting on 7th May 2012 at the Corus Hotel, Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia, MyCWP re-introduced to the partners to what the GWP is, the
technical papers that are available and the GWP’s influence globally.

GWP Chair Dr Letitia A Obeng spoke at the”High Level event Leaders’ Forum on the Future Women Want: Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment for Sustainable Development” on 19 June 2012 at Rio+20, organized by UN Women, in collaboration with the Government of Brazil.

Elena Fatulova is the new Chair of the Global Water Partnership Slovakia it was announced on 5 April 2012.

The Nile Council of Ministers (NILE-COM) meeting held in Kigali, Rwanda on 5^th July 2012, commended Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa (GWPEA) projects specifically Bugesera Transbandary Project implemented in the framework of WACDEP, and Adapting to Climate Change Induced Water Stress in River Nile Basin, a SIDA-UNEP funded project.
