GWP Central America joined two Latin American youth networks in the organization of the Latin American Youth and Environment Conference (#ELACJA), held in Mexico City from October 21-23. GWP supported the participation of six people from each of the countries in the region.
GWPSA’s technical team participated at the World Water Week in Stockholm from 28th August – 2nd September, 2016. Under the theme, Water for Sustainable Growth, the team participated in a number of sessions contributing to the solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today. The Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) has established a formal agreement with the Department for Planning and Conservation of Agricultural Lands at the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture towards integrating climate change considerations in water and soil conservation planning, under the WACDEP (Water, Climate & Development) Programme; and in this context, it has entered a very fruitful collaboration with the Ministry, as well as the Regional Department for Agriculture in Bizerte, in Tunisia’s North, using the Douimis Basin in the Bizerte Region as a pilot for the development of the climate change mainstreaming methodology.
A team of GWP-WA and CWP Burkina PNE had on June 11, 2015 a visit to assess the level of implementation of work on the site of the WACDEP demonstration project in Burkina Faso. This project involves the drip irrigation techniques for the efficient management of agricultural water for the benefit of vulnerable populations in the municipality of Loumbila in the center of the country.
Since the last visit in April 2015 there has been plowing work, the installation of some drip irrigation and water pumping equipment with solar energy, among others.
The National celebration for World Wetlands Day organised by the Central Environment Authority (CEA) and Wild Life Department (WLD) was held on 2 February 2016 at a wetland site in Chilaw in the North Western Province under the Patronage of His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena. Sri Lanka Water Partnership (SLWP) and Hatton National Bank were the two main collaborators of this national event while Mr Ranjith Ratnayake, Country Coordinator SLWP attended the celebration.
