The practice known as rainwater harvesting or roof-water harvesting is as old as time and as modern as today — as a new following of people from around the world are choosing to harvest rain to provide for their everyday needs and to help the planet by conserving water.
Thirty participants from 5 Middle East & Nortnern Africa (MENA) countries - Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia - gathered in Tunisia, on 8-19 February 2015, in a course held in the framework of the 4-year MENA Integrated Sustainable Coastal Development Training Programme (MENA ISCD), financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and jointly implemented by NIRAS Natura AB and the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med).
The Dialogue on Water Resources Demand and Energy Development in the middle reaches of Yellow River organized by GWP China Yellow River, China Shenghua Group Company Ltd. and Yellow River Research Association with the support by GWP China was held on October 25, 2014, in Erduos, Inner Mongolia.
GWP Eastern Africa showcased Water, Climate Development Program (WACDEP) in the the 3nd Annual Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-III), which took place in Ethiopia's capital Addis-Ababa from 20-24th October 2013.
On 27-28 November 2014 the Global Forum on Environment: "New Perspective on the Water-Energy-Food-Nexus" was held in the OECD headquarters in Paris.
In collaboration with the EU-funded Sustainable Water Integrated Management (SWIM) programme, the First Regional Conference of the UfM-labelled project “Governance and Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector” will take place on 28-30 October 2014 in Athens, Greece. The Synthesis Report on Economically Water Insecure (EWI) Regions presents a documentation of the proceedings held at the 7th World Water Forum in April 2015. The report was prepared by GWP Senior Advisor Alan Hall, as Coordinator for the EWI sessions.
This session was organised by a partnership of five international organisations from four continents: African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, Development Bank of Latin America, Global Water Partnership and K-Water.
As part of the Regional Process of the 7th World Water Forum in Gyeongju, a series of five sessions were held with a focus on EWI regions. The sessions brought together participants from four regions to share experiences and lessons from countries/regions facing similar water and economic constraints - without being constrained by traditional regional geographical boundaries.
The follow up will form part of the proposed SDG Initiative through which the poorest and most water insecure countries will be helped in the future work programme.
