China Hebei: Storage and use of rainwater (#352)

The Hebei province is experiencing severe water shortages resulting in serious environmental and socio-ecological problems. To combat these issues, the provincial government has encouraged rainwater utilisation for agriculture as well as improving soil and water conservancy and vegetation cover. The most important lesson is that rainwater is able to alleviate water shortage particularly in dry season or dry zones.

Mékrou Project : Validation of national studies

    The studies on "Identification of national development priorities on the Mékrou basin in Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger were validated after comments made by the consultant were discussed and taken into account by national consultants.

    “MENA Focus”: Regional Events dedicated to the Middle East & North Africa officially launched at the Stockholm World Water Week

    This year’s Stockholm World Water Week successfully launched the inclusion of a set of events dedicated to the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Region in the Week’s official programme, alongside the Regional Days for Africa, Asia and Latin America. The Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) had been selected and serves as the overall coordinator for these “MENA Focus” events. The Sessions were organized in partnership with a number of international regional institutions and organisations.

    National Water Week 2016 in Yaoundé.

    In the run up to the World Water Day 2016, GWP-CAf partners, like Cameroon Ministry of water and energy, private sector, NGOs and civil society organizations, organized the national water week 2016, in Yaoundé, which had as theme “water and jobs” and took place over seven days, from March 17-22, 2016.

     

    Several events took place during the national week. Among which, there was a media workshop; two site visits, conducted, one to the wastewater treatment plant and the other to water treatment plant; a campaign for the dissemination of knowledge and legal text on water sector and sanitation; an exhibition fair; football and power walking and a forum on water jobs. All of these activities ended with a competition for a best poem written and cartoon on “water and jobs” for pupils of 5 schools in Yaounde.

    Ruth Beukman: Relationships, Diversity and Flexibility are our Strengths

    In our 2016 interview series to celebrate GWP 20 years, we talk to Ruth Beukman, Regional Executive Secretary for GWP Southern Africa. After 13 years, she is preparing to leave her job at the end of this year. But she will never completely leave GWP, she says, and speaks fondly of the network – the “GWP family”, whose strength lies in its strong relationships, diversity and flexibility.
