1st WASAG International Forum on Water Scarcity in Agriculture

Under the patronage of Cabo Verde, in collaboration with Italy and FAO, WASAG announces its 1st International Forum on Water Scarcity in Agriculture to be held in Praia, Cabo Verde on 19-22 March, to coincide with the celebrations of the World Water Day 2019 which this year adopts the theme of ‘Leaving no one behind’.

Ethiopia: WASH Movement for better sanitation and hygiene (#335)

In 2004, action was taken to address some major challenges in Ethiopia through the Ethiopia Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Movement. The objectives were to promote improved water, sanitation and hygiene practices and gain political and social commitment. The initiative has enjoyed great success. Lessons learnt include the importance of defining responsibilities and obligations of members, the importance of appointing local staff that facilitates the communication, and the importance of regular funding.

New to the Network: GWP Colombia

On August 17, GWP granted formal accreditation to GWP Colombia - or “Alianza Colombiana para el Agua”, which is the local name. Colombia is a country recognised by its technical capacity in Latin America and beyond.

Asia mainstreaming climate change adaptation into water resources

Global Water Partnership (GWP) Africa teamed-up with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), under the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP) to lead the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Regional Training Workshop for Asia on “Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation into Water Resources”.

GWP at UN's Climate Change Conference COP23

The 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the UN Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be organised by Fiji and hosted at the headquarters of the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn, Germany. The 2-week event takes place 6-17 November.

Yellow River Water Allocation Plan of 2016

The Yellow River runs through nine provinces in China: Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Henan and Shandong. The provinces have a common problem of water shortage that leads to water use disputes. For better cooperation between the provinces, the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC) makes the annual water allocation plans, water controlling scheme and a real-time water control.

GWP and AMCOW – Collaborating for Success

GWP and AMCOW – the African Ministers’ Council on Water – have been working together for over a decade. AMCOW Executive Secretary Dr Canisius Kanangire recently visited the GWP secretariat in Stockholm to discuss current and future collaboration. Dr Kanangire says that GWP has a lot of knowledge, experience, and expertise that can support AMCOW to reach results in many aspects of water resources management.
