From 26 to 31 January 2015, the Chair of GWP-WA, Pr. Abel AFOUDA and the Network Officer for West Africa, Mr. Manuel FULCHIRON were having a working visit at the Regional Secretariat. For the first meeting of the New Year, the Chair expressed his good wishes in the hope that this year will be shining for GWP-WA to support CWP for greater visibility in the countries.

More than 80 Members of Parliaments (MPs), journalists, country administrators, intergovernmental organisations, NGOs, and private partners from 16 countries contributed to a regional workshop dedicated to climate change adaptation in coastal areas of the Mediterranean (5-6 November 2015, Athens).

#COP21 commonly referred to as the United Nations Climate Change Conference is the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). #COP21 kicked off on November 30^th and runs until December 11th, 2015 in France. 

The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa participated in the recently held Water Show Africa 2017. The event, organised by Terrapinn Pty Ltd was held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa on 28-29 March 2017. The overall event theme centred around “Strategy and Innovation for Water Utilities, Operators, Partners and End Users”

Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) with support from the European Union recently held an inception workshop on NEXUS at the Vaal, South Africa to help address Southern Africa’s complex and interdependent challenges.

The Ghana Country Water Partnership (CWP-Ghana) hosted the 7th Technical Coordination workshop of the Water, Climate and Development Program (WACDEP) from Monday 5th October to Wednesday 7th October, 2015 at the La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. The purpose of the meeting was to share progress, approaches and lessons learnt in delivering the WACDEP outputs in the 8 countries rolling out the program. It also served as a platform to discuss the key constraints and opportunities identified during implementation, and set the stage for scaling up WACDEP implementation.

A review meeting on the 1^st draft manuscript on the “Limpopo River Basin: Atlas of Our Changing Environment” took place in Johannesburg, South Africa on 23^rd and 24^th June, 2016. The planned outputs were met, as participants were able to discuss and strengthen the content; strengthen the visual impact of the atlas and identity case studies and hotspots. By the end of the meeting, the manuscript drafting team agreed to the comments submitted by participants which would once completed improve the content of the atlas and make it easy for planners to put to use. 

The Regional Coordinator, Mr. Dam MOGBANTE and Network Officer, mr. Manuel FULCHIRON made a mission in Accra, Ghana where they met with the regional office for Africa of the UN Food and Agriculture organization (FAO). The meeting aimed at informing and trying to secure partnership for the nexus « food security, water, food and ecosystem ». GWP shared its experience in particular on the country dialogs undertaken in 2015 in the context of the UN CFS work stream on water and food security as well as the envisaged follow up on water and food security in Africa.

 

Upon finalization of the campaign ÔVI (eau=vie / water=life) that has been running throughout February and March in primary schools around Tunisia to raise awareness on water scarcity and the importance of water saving, the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med) celebrated the World Water Day by organizing a workshop on “Water, Youth and Employment” on Saturday, 19 March 2016, in Hammamet.
