GWP’s Financing Partners Group (FPG) and Steering Committee (SC) met in December to consider a range of issues facing the GWP network. One of the highlights was a joint session with both entities which addressed the issue of water diplomacy.

A new film on the implementation of the pilot project initiated in the northern part of Benin in the Mékrou Basin has just been released by GWP West Africa. This video presents the actions carried out by the Mékrou pilot project in Benin. The Pilot Project to Support the Restoration of Ecosystems of the Head source of the Mekrou Basin (PAREM) in Benin aims to improve people’s knowledge on the impacts of climate change on the ecosystems of the head source of the basin; and to reduce the degradation of the natural ecosystems of the head source of the Mekrou. The project implementation is coordinated by the Benin Country Water Partnership with funding from the European Union Commission.

The GWP China WACDEP aims to integrate water security and climate resilience in development planning processes, build climate resilience and support provinces to adapt to a new climate regime through increased investments in water security. By building climate resilience, the initiative will contribute to national social-economic development, coordinate transboundary water cooperation of different provinces, and demonstrate pilot project in delta areas and support safe investments in water and economic development, and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

From 22- 23 October 2015, the Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa (GWPEA) conducted a regional workshop themed “ Role of the media in promoting water security, climate resilience and drought risk management”. The workshop was attended by 15 media practitioners from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti.

“Thinking of pastoral care and water policies may sound farfetched for water managers and civil engineers with whom I spend a professional life – but not so. The ways we discuss water policy decisions often closely mirror broader social and ethical decisions.” GWP Technical Committee Chair Jerome Delli Priscoli recently addressed experts from around the world in a workshop at the Pontifical Academy of Science in the Vatican City.

From December 14 to 16, 2015, the “Regional Workshop on South-South Cooperation in Flood Management” was jointly organized by GWP China and GWPO in Guangdong, China.

GWPSA’s technical team participated at the World Water Week in Stockholm from 28^th August – 2^nd September, 2016. Under the theme, Water for Sustainable Growth, the team participated in a number of sessions contributing to the solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today. Following the SADC Water Week Conference held at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, Malawi from the 13-15 May, 2015, the Malawi National Youth Water Network (MNYWN) was formed on the 14^th of May, 2015. The setting up of the Network was in line with the SADC program for the African Minister’s Council on Water (AMCOW) Policy and Strategy on Mainstreaming Youth in the Water and Sanitation Sector through the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Water Aid and Malawi Water Partnership.
